Online Dating Rights. Mail Order Brides

FOUR REASONS American men seek romance abroad: Prague, Ha Long Bay, Red Square, small villages in Latin America. Somehow meeting a Czech, Vietnamese, Russian or Peruvian/Colombian/Brazilian woman for a date at one of these exotic places is incomparably more exciting than meeting a hometown girl at the local coffeeshop. Opponents of a man's right to meet foreign women online never stop to consider how enjoyable it is to travel/work/live abroad and learn new cultures and languages while seeking a marriage partner.

Polaris is very careful about mentioning "marriage brokers" or "mail order brides" for some reason. But they allude to familiar rhetoric on their site:

At Polaris Project, we have developed a similar tool called the Human Trafficking Power and Control Wheel that shows types of abuse found within various trafficking situations, many of which mirror that used in intimate partner and familial abuse.

Human trafficking and domestic violence can intersect in even more profound ways.   Intimate partners can force their partners into highly exploitative situations.  A partner can also be a human trafficker.  Intimate Partner Trafficking is not a type of trafficking that has been researched, prosecuted or discussed to the extent as other trafficking trends we see – but it does happen.  However, much like intimate partner rape, it is likely that this type of exploitation is highly underreported.

Couldn't they have come up with a new Wheel?  This is the same as the Domestic Violence Wheel but instead of saying "Domestic Violence" it says "Sex Trafficking" and "Labor Trafficking"

Note that while sex trafficking was the biggest and even the only basis for the existence of Polaris (and lots of smaller groups in the corrupt anti-trafficking lobby), labor trafficking has been bringing up the rear and now gets co-equal billing with sex trafficking.

Why?  Several reasons.  First, sex trafficking led the campaigns because it gets people's attention more quickly.  Polaris and the others use emotional appeals to win money from state legislatures and not facts, because the facts definitely do not support their businesses.

Labor trafficking may exist in greater numbers to the US (I don't really know because I don't follow this issue), and perhaps the anti-trafficking lobby realizes that they need more fact-based agendas to win more money, or even to get the same amount that they got last year what with the economic downturn.

Advocacy groups that get taxpayer money for "protecting" foreign women and the thoughtless media call foreign woman a "mail order bride" if she met her husband via internet.  This is American imperialism, it is denigrating, insulting and portrays the women as helpless fools.
